ART

If you pay attention to this blog at all you must have noticed the new artwork being posted recently. I really want to try and get my stuff shown and sold again, I had a pretty active 2009 as far as sales and showings goes. It’s been non-existent, mostly because I felt I wasn’t ready. I am now, these paintings are now ready.

Please visit my website: www.zacharyhillart.com to check out my new series. I am looking to sell for sure at base price…. just enough to help me keep buying new canvas and paint. I don’t paint for profit(all though some profit would be nice). More importantly I want to show my work again. Salons, Music Shows, Galleries, Parties… wherever. I just want my work to be seen, to be loved and hated, criticized and praised. Just SEEN, the internet makes it somewhat possible, but seeing artwork in person is a different experience.

Electronic music fans

I really really want to do a solo electronic side project and colab with others(by colab I mean learn from). I have no idea where to start, I have been googling, youtubing, and wikipediaing for a while now and I feel a little over whelmed. I know I have friends out there doing their thing in the electronic music world and I can use your help.

Can you suggest some equipment to pick up? Programs as well? Any advice at all? Here is some stuff that keeps popping up in my research:

1. Roland TR and SP series

2. Korg keyboards and Kaos pads

3. Reason/Logic programs

Any other ideas with good value and easy to use for a beginner to all this stuff?

“You had no choice but to only care about the music, and if you chose to care about other things while your there, you were there for the wrong reasons. Maybe you were there to increase your hipster cred or simply just to party…. but the music was there and it couldn’t be ignored, no matter how hard some people tried.” —Excerpt for upcoming Op Ed on Coachella and Tributefest for issue 2 of Proxart Magazine

Social

this is the end……

not in a prophetic end of days kind of way
just an apathetic viewpoint on 2010
several days from now when men will fear 2012
there won’t be brimstone or tears just no more books on the shelves
us versus ourselves,no vials of methadone, just 2012 pounds of fried chicken that fall off the bone
corporate kings will have their thrones, instead of using bullets and bombs they’ll vomit soft regulations designed to destroy for profit, government won’t be there to stop it, we’ll use it to produce the next reality star straight out of the womb, I JUST WANT TO SEE TWO GROOMS!
sanctity?! divorce is a bigger part of religion, casual sex our primary ambition, individual intuition before the human rights mission?

we can’t be in a society without being social

Top 5

My musical listening journey has naturally entered the land of hip hop, so here are my top 5 hip hop acts…. I am by no means super knowledgeable in this genre, so suggestions are definitely welcomed!

1. The Streets

2. Atmosphere

3. Sage Francis

4. Flobots

5. Jay-Z

BTW, please do not suggest man stream rap! There is a difference between rap and real hip hop.

“America today is a “save yourself society if there ever was one. But does it really work? The underdeveloped societies suffer from one set of diseases: tuberculosis, malnutrition, pneumonia, parasites, typhoid, cholera, typhus, etc. Affluent America has virtually invented a whole new set of diseases: obesity, arteriosclerosis, heard disease, strokes, lung cancer, venereal disease, cirrhosis of the liver, drug addiction, alcoholism, divorce, battered children, suicide, murder. Take your choice. Labor-saving machines have turned out to be body-killing devices. Our affluence has allowed both mobility and isolation of the nuclear family, and as a result, our divorce courts, our prisons and our mental institutions are flooded. In saving ourselves we have nearly lost ourselves.” —Ralph Winter, “Reconsecration to a Wartime, Not a Peacetime, Lifestyle” (via nthnryn)

99 cent clowns

misguided missile launchers wearing high heels and immature mouths
ask you for the time and when this can all be over

they live in primordial sub cultures where all you see is pictures
nothing but blurbs and emoticons
they never wonder if this is wrong, all they see is suburbs
playing songs that have to do with sex and the 21st century vision

I found out one day via digital information that I never had a mission, someone messaged me: “patience is mastered, it can never be learned”
I believe mastery is not earned, it’s bled for by the soldiers of history
left dead for all the 5 star directors to see
or at least by you and me

but there are always so much better things to view
99 cent clowns selling 2 dollar tickets and nothing to do
Styrofoam eyes wondering if I’ll ever get with it
golden microphones eliminating sound

we can see everything
it’s too digital to ignore
YOU ARE TOO NAKED

this is false exposure
fuck 15 minutes… GIVE ME 15 YEARS OF FAME!
watch my videos, never at your leisure
they have 222 different pictures of you
all of someone pretending that they’re so innocent so pure

but these numeric platforms reveal the shit behind the curtain
all the false rhetoric, all the barbs and bourbon
all the candid smiles, all the constructed lives
all the backed up files of all your different wives

this is all okay, the strings they can’t catch fire
they are made of copper wire, for all the fakes and liars
there will be 325 friends liking things you think about
but no one in your bed, no one to let it out

everyone to read you cry, no one to hear you shout
everyone to see you die, no one knows your dead
no one knows you love, at least they can look it up
this is what we’re made of, when will the be enough?

this isn't a question, you are just floating along on the conveyor belt of conformity by creating a formspring.me profile, and frankly i am a little saddened, slightly embarrassed and just overall in disbelief that you would waste your time.

How true this, but in classic social networking form, formspring truly feeds into my most carnal attributes of narcissism… how could I have resisted? Now ask me questions and make me feel important!

Which came first? The music or the misery?

Seeking creative knowledge

There is so much I want to learn about when it comes to art and music. Design, electronic music, street art, turntables, photography spray paint, ink, samplers…. etc. etc. I could go on and on. It’s hard to stay focused when there are so many great artists doing so many creative things that I want to do too.

Art classes are definitely working wonders with the academic and basic drafting skills, youtube, internet, magazines, are helping with the ideas and techniques found outside the academic environment. But I think talking to people and having a conversation/tutorial on this stuff would help so much.

So if anyone has any tips, experience, lessons, ideas to share that would be great. Let me know what materials/equipment you use, dos and don’ts if any, advice etc.

Hope to hear from ya
